Posting Summary: Information Technology Services is seeking a Communications Generalist. This position reports to the Director of Customer Communications. The incumbent provides a wide range of communications strategies and supports the organization's mission as a strategic resource providing quality IT services to the University community. His/her main focus is on all communications for the Security Enhancement Program (SEP), making the University community aware of and educating them about all its components.
The communications generalist will analyze audiences and develop effective communication strategies; create compelling content regarding awareness and promotion of all aspects of SEP utilizing a variety of platforms (online, print, video, social media, and mobile) across multiple touch points and channels; and translate technical speak into user-friendly information. S/he will work both independently and with the Customer Communications team. Responsibilities include:
-Supporting the Security Enhancement Program project and its activities, including:
-Development of a comprehensive communication plan Development of video scripts and oversight of the ensuing production
-Creation, production, and maintenance of SEP website
-Creation and potential delivery (public presentation) of collateral and presentation material
-Assessment of need for, and creation of, appropriate and timely communications to targeted groups as well as the University community as a whole
-Proactively communicating with stakeholders involved with the various SEP components to develop technically accurate, clear and compelling content for target audiences.
-Collaborating with SEP project managers to ensure that important information is distributed in a way that is relevant, consistent and timely to the target audiences.
-Managing content creation projects from concept to completion, including information gathering, content development, review, editing, proofreading, and follow-through to final production.
-Interacting and collaborating with the Customer Communications team and other University resources to coordinate internal and external messaging.
Required Minimum Level of Education: *Degree Required
Required Specific Degree/Training: A Bachelor's Degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or related field and significant experience in communications.
Preferred Minimum Level of Education: Bachelor's Degree
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Considerable - 4 to 7 years
Required Specific Experience: Demonstrated work-related experience in writing, communications, and Web publishing.
Preferred Minimum Level of Experience: Extensive - 7 years plus
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Outstanding written and oral communication skills, as well as a proven ability to articulate complex ideas clearly to a general audience in multiple forums. Thorough grounding in various communication channels including print, online, email, and social media. Knowledge of technical trends and ability to adopt new tools or strategies when appropriate. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, providing direct support to colleagues. Ability to translate SEP and Information Technology Services' mission, goals, and services into effective communication strategies. Strong interpersonal skills and disposition that is positive and professional. Working knowledge of Drupal/HTML/CSS Analytic and reporting skills (to help effectively gather, interpret, display, and report on data about social media performance, usability test results, Google Analytics, etc.) Some experience with applications in Adobe Creative Suite Familiarity with concepts from SEO, content strategy, UX/UI, blogging, and/or email marketing
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience with desktop publishing and design.
