Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Program Coordinator for The Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources. This position reports to the Chair, Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Rutgers NJAES Cooperative Extension. The Senior Program Coordinator provides leadership and support to the educational program in Warren County, NJ on commercial agriculture issues, with specific emphasis on livestock and animal husbandry; pasture management; nutrient management; and small and beginning farms.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides administrative leadership and program direction to the agricultural and natural resources extension program in Warren County, NJ.
Develops educational materials, curricula, and educational programs to provide current and innovative management information in the areas of special emphasis listed above.
Collects, analyzes, and provides research validated data to clientele.
Regularly consults with Extension faculty and staff in neighboring counties, Extension specialists, other Rutgers faculty and staff, and external collaborators and advisory groups to determine needs, develop clientele relationships, and assist with projects and programs.
Coordinates programmatic efforts with the Warren County Board of Agriculture.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in animal science, production agriculture, agronomy, or a closely related agricultural field from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of program design and execution, coordination, organization, facilitation, report analysis, writing, and promotion/outreach.
A minimum of two (2) years relevant post degree professional experience, preferably in the area of sustainable livestock, pasture management, and/or agricultural systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and effective public speaking and presentation skills for program delivery and communications to clientele
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse audiences
Evidence of developing recent educational materials and/or methods targeting diverse populations
Ability to address changing technology to serve clientele
Computer and communication technology skills
A current, or ability to obtain, a NJ pesticide applicator license from NJ Department of Environmental Protection
Marketing/public relations skills
Excellent time management and organization skills
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be willing to travel, when necessary, to sites throughout New Jersey for business demands.
Research experience in experimental design, evaluation, data collection, and analysis
Ability to secure outside sources of funds through grants, agreements, and contracts to support programmatic efforts
Ability to work independently and in a team format for local and regional commercial agricultural and livestock programming
Computer, printer and related software including but not limited to Microsoft Office suite
Email and internet for communications and research, locally and nationally, including participation in webinars and other web based technologies
Equipment related to teaching (laptop, LCD projector, etc.)
Working knowledge of current and changing electronic technology
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position requires a combination of office and field work, both with Extension colleagues as well as with local farmers throughout Warren County and utilizing the NJAES research facilities in Pittstown, NJ.
