The Assistant Communications Officer-OPAC is responsible for producing high-quality news releases, pitches, and long and short-form articles about university faculty, programs, and initiatives at Yale. This position works closely with senior communications officers, digital and video content producers at the Office of public Affairs and Communications (OPAC) and with communicators across the university to develop ideas for promoting faculty activities on earned media and for publication on the YaleNews website and on social media.
This position also helps to execute strategic communications plans covering a wide range of academic disciplines at Yale, including arts, humanities, social sciences, medicine, science, and the professional schools. In addition, this position is responsible for developing and managing forward-looking content, both externally and internally, in order to enhance Yale's reputation and tell the stories of Yale. The position is also responsible for developing strong relationships with reporters/producers at print, broadcast, and online outlets.
Preferred Education: Proficiency with technical communications tools, such as content management systems, email messaging, video shooting and editing, Photoshop and HTML editing is highly desirable. Familiarity with the academic environment. Knowledge of AP style.
