The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) statewide non-profit coalition that advocates for the rights of immigrants and refugees. ICIRR engages in public policy advocacy, community organizing, service coordination, training and technical assistance, public education and outreach and leadership development for immigrants and refugees in Illinois and on a national level.
ICIRR provides our members with organizing and advocacy strategy, training and technical assistance on issues that affect their respective immigrant constituents, and up-to-date information and policy analysis on immigrant- and refugee-related issues. ICIRR ensures the effectiveness of our member organizations by providing ongoing leadership development opportunities, promoting citizenship and civic participation, monitoring and analyzing immigrant-related laws and policies, forming cross ethnic alliances, and informing the general public about the positive contributions of newcomers to Illinois and the U.S. ICIRR is a justice organization serving vulnerable immigrant communities; excellence in pursuit of ICIRR's overall mission is expected of all employees.
The Campaign For A Welcoming Illinois is a statewide coalition co-convened by ICIRR, Asian Americans Advancing Justice and PASO (West Suburban Action Project). The Campaign drives the advocacy and organizing efforts around ICIRR’s statewide agenda. In 2017, the Campaign led the efforts to pass the Illinois TRUST Act. During the 2018 legislative session, the Campaign is leading and supporting a number of legislative efforts to strengthen protections for Illinois’ immigrants and refugees.
The primary goal of the Campaign Coordinator (contractor) is to oversee the operations of the campaign, ensure weekly deliverables are being met and to coordinate internal communication amongst the Campaign’s membership. The coordinator will work closely with ICIRR’s Director of Organizing, Chief Policy Counsel and Communications team.
Support the overall mission of ICIRR:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Campaign’s activities and ensure that the week’s deliverables are being executed
Provide the necessary guidance to the coalition and its members to ensure that the campaign’s goals are advancing
Send out Campaign emails to coalition members with minutes and updates about weekly meetings and campaign developments
Facilitate weekly Campaign meetings
Facilitate campaign conference calls as needed
Support campaign-wide events and activities including actions and press conferences
Build relationships with campaign members to engage in the campaign’s efforts
Participate in advocacy days in Springfield and keep track of conversations and commitments campaign members had with elected officials, allies and other stakeholders
Work with campaign organizers to conduct trainings for coalition members and their leaders along with new allies on the campaign’s policy priorities and around Springfield advocacy
We’re seeking candidates who are detailed and results oriented, excel in relationship-building and collaboration and have strong project management skills.
2-3 years of experience working in community organizing and statewide advocacy
Demonstrated success in managing campaigns
Comfortable with basic Microsoft Programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Experience working with immigrants and/or refugees preferred
Bilingual language capacity strongly preferred, especially Spanish
Working experience in community organizing and/or legislative advocacy campaigns, with some formal training preferred
Commitment to social justice, immigrant rights and racial equity
Excellent interpersonal and writing skills; experience and comfort in public speaking
excellent leadership abilities and superior organizational skills; detail-oriented with the ability to juggle many different tasks simultaneously and complete them in a timely manner
