The Staff Accountant, under the direction of the Comptroller, assists the Comptroller and Assistant Comptroller in maintaining the integrity of the College's financial records. The Staff Accountant is responsible for analyzing financial information and performing a variety of accounting duties associated with the timely and accurate preparation and reporting of financial data, in accordance with applicable accounting, industry, regulatory and institutional principles and policies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Monthly reconciliation of All College Balance Sheet Accounts, and major Operating Statement Accounts, including state appropriation accounts.
Performs the vouching of the accounts payable checks, financial aid checks, and direct deposits issued.
Monitors daily bank summary and detail reports and reports that information to Student Accounts Office.
Responsible for electronic approval for all student cash receipts; works closely with Student Accounts Office to review and make adjustments as necessary prior to posting to the college's accounting system.
Posts daily journal entries into the Banner accounting system for the College's account.
Responsible for tracking and monitoring the College's utility accounts.
Prepares reports that project usage and cost of the College's utilities.
Responsible for updating College's fiscal policy and procedures manual.
Research and maintain the College's outstanding checks listing.
Prepare reports to assist in the drawdown of federal funds.
Participates in the annual independent audit of the College's and other related audit reports.
Work with the Comptroller to maintain the College's Enterprise Risk Policy.
Responsible for the monthly reconciliations of the College's Investments and HEFA bond activity.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promotes and maintains responsive community relations.
Performs other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Normal office environment, not subject to extreme variations of temperature, noise, odors, etc.
Regularly uses computer keyboards requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
More than half of time spent in normal office setting.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
At least five (5) years of accounting experience in higher education or a related field.
Thorough knowledge of accounting practices and procedures in a non-profit, government, higher education or similar setting.
Commitment to the mission and philosophy of the College with a strong understanding and respect for the goals of college activities.
Ability to recognize College-wide priorities and work cooperatively to support their accomplishment.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; to establish positive public relations, and to interact effectively with a wide variety of people.
Working knowledge of modern office procedures, practices, and equipment including the use of computers.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, and automated financial systems.
Cultural awareness and competency demonstrated by working with and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity and veterans including those with different levels of academic preparation, varying physical and learning abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Access and Banner ERP systems.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Knowledge of Massachusetts state and college accounting practices.
Salary Range: $53,000 to $62,700 Actual salary dependent on education and experience.
Hours: 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week,
Location: Bedford campus with occasional travel to the Lowell campus and to off-campus sites.
