Communications Assistant

Job Summary: The Jacobs School of Music Communications Assistant is responsible for assisting the Office of Communications staff and coordinating ALL workflow in a busy communications office. The Communications Assistant assists with various day-to-day business and administrative functions in support of project traffic and ongoing activities; creates purchase orders, intra-unit financial transactions, and letters of agreement; coordinates activities with printers, designers, and other vendors; coordinates Jacobs School of Music advertising placement; tracks production activity, such as design and copy for a series of advertisements, brochures, and posters; attracts event sponsorship from for-profit and non-for-profit corporations; distributes flyers and posters around the area; and may assist organizing and representing the JSoM at community information booths. Required Qualifications: REQUIRED: High School diploma or GED and two years of experience – editing, writing, marketing and/or communications. Knowledge and experience with MS Office (primarily WORD and Excel) and Creative Suite (primarily InDesign and Photoshop.) Must have an ability to able to multi-task, communicate professionally and tactfully, and problem solve. Preferred Qualifications: Arts Administration, Business, or Marketing degree. Music knowledge and experience. Experience with cloud-based project management software, such as Salesforce. Experience working in a fast-paced arts organization.
