The Assistant Director of International Admissions (AD) is a member of the International Admissions team within the Office of Enrollment. The AD is responsible for the recruitment and admission of freshman and transfer applicants from specific countries or regions outside the United States. The AD plays an important role in sharing the American University brand with prospective students, families, and schools from around the world and representing the University as a leader in liberal arts education. The AD will travel abroad for international recruitment to attend college fairs, high school visits, and other recruitment events. The AD is responsible for the evaluation and file review for freshman and transfer applications from any country outside the US as needed.
The AD will support the Director of International Admissions in the development and implementation of the annual recruitment plan and evaluation of recruitment activities. Additionally, the AD assists in the coordination and staffing of on-campus programs and online events for prospective students, and for supporting domestic recruitment travel when needed. This position reports directly to the Director of International Admissions and requires minimal supervision
The Assistant Director of International Admissions, as a representative of the university to diverse cultures and populations within the U.S. and around the world, must demonstrate highly developed interpersonal, cross-cultural and public speaking skills
Organizational skills to conduct demographic, geographic and historical research, as it pertains to American University’s applicant trends, are essential
The ability to successfully mentor and supervise student assistants is required
The incumbent is expected to be able to work independently, take initiative, and be an active member of the International Admissions team
The Assistant Director of International Admissions contributes to the team-oriented environment within the Office of Enrollment
The position requires significant travel internationally and within the U.S., a passport for travel outside the U.S., and work on evenings and weekends

Required Education and Experience
At least two years of demonstrated international admissions, file review, transcript evaluation, credentials evaluation, and international recruitment experience
Knowledge of trends and best practices in international education
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the evaluation of international secondary and post-secondary (bachelor’s degree) educational credentials and transcripts
Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills, writing and public speaking ability, problem-solving ability, events and overseas travel planning, public relations, customer service, and computer skills
Preferred Education and Experience
Regional expertise in Latin America and/or South and East Asia areas
