The University of Chicago, Office of Communications, is seeking a Communications Associate who will play an integral role in executing and evaluating plans for University announcements, internal communications initiatives and special projects. The candidate must be an exceptional project manager with attention to detail, highly organized and a strong communicator. The right candidate will be a self-starter who is willing and able to roll up his/her sleeves and accomplish tasks in a fast-paced environment.
The Communications Associate reports to Executive Director Communications Strategy and Chief of Staff.
Working closely with the Executive Director, implement a communications plan, including tools and processes to engage internal University audiences across new and existing internal multi-media channels.
Support execution of major University announcements, including development of streamlined process, timelines, key messages and coordination with cross-campus communicators.
Support organizational announcements (promotions, new hires) and change management communications as needed.
Oversee campus-wide communications newsletter, which includes coordinating with key communicators, curating and publishing editorial content.
Helps ensure internal messages reinforce the Office of Communications vision, strategic priorities, and content pillars.
Support implementation of internal events, including logistics and content (agendas, presentations, video, external speakers, etc.) for internal meetings of all sizes ranging from annual all-campus communicator events to quarterly all-staff meetings.
Help develop a culture of recognition through a branded awards program, including purpose, process, criteria and budget.
Develop and implement metrics to assess the effectiveness and impact of internal communications.
Strong business acumen and emotional intelligence.
Exceptional written and verbal communication, problem-solving, decision-making, client service and cross-department collaboration skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Self-motivated go-getter with a positive attitude.
Exceptional time and project management and organizational skills including the ability to meet external and internal deadlines.
Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion.
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations or a related field required.
4 - 6 years of proven success managing or supporting internal communications, public relations and/or digital communications campaigns, preferably in a large, matrixed organization.
