DESCRIPTION: East Texas Baptist University invites applications for a full-time, career-track position in Mass Communication. The position begins August 2018 and will include teaching 24 credit hours per year, participation in departmental meetings and review, contribution to curriculum development, and student advising duties.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in multiple areas within the discipline, and will be assigned courses according to the successful candidate’s interest and expertise. The teaching assignment will include four classes each semester taken from any of the following areas based on the successful candidate’s interest and expertise.
General mass media
Journalism/media writing for print, television, radio, web and social media
Multimedia and graphic design
New media technology
The successful candidate will oversee the mass communication program, provide assistance to adjunct instructors with in the program, and determine policies for and direction of the program under the supervision of the chair of the Department of Communication Studies and Dean of the School of Communication and Performing Arts.
The department has approximately 65 majors and offers a degree in Mass Communication with specializations in Digital/Worship Media, Graphic Design, and Social Media; with additional majors in Public Relations, Sports Communication, Organizational Communication, Speech Communication, and Speech Education.
QUALIFICATIONS: ETBU seeks a qualified individual with teaching experience and a record of professional involvement. Candidates must also have a strong commitment to academic scholarship and teaching, and the ability to communicate well with students and colleagues. ETBU seeks Christian faculty who are committed to the integration of faith in learning and will to invest in the university, local church, and regional community.
EDUCATION: Doctorate preferred; masters required
