The Peck School, an independent, coed K- 8 elementary school located in Morristown, NJ seeks a dynamic and collaborative communications leader to oversee the school’s communication and marketing operations. The Director of Strategic Communications will report to the Head of School and will be a member of the administrative team. In addition, The Director of Strategic Communications will collaborate closely with the Director of Admissions and Director of Advancement to ensure all school messaging and marketing, both internal and external, is aligned and consistent with the school’s brand.
Overview of Responsibilities
Oversee the school’s marketing and communications efforts.
Devise and implement a comprehensive and thoughtful communications plan.
Devise and implement a strategic marketing plan aimed at increasing awareness of Peck to targeted admissions entry points.
Maintain school image and strategize long-term branding initiatives, planning and executing programs, which enhance the visibility and public perception of the school.
Ensure all official communications and promotional materials are in accordance with the School’s mission and brand identity.
Work closely with the Head of School to refine overarching messaging and key points of emphasis regarding school marketing and branding.
Support the Head of School with letter and speech writing.
Ensure brand consistency with all digital and printed materials
Manage an annual budget for Marketing and Communications.
Oversee all official external outreach, both print and digital for all aspects of the School.
Write and disseminate press releases to promote school wide initiatives as well as write and edit feature stories directed toward current and prospective families.
Coordinate local and national media outreach through press releases and media connections.
Develop, manage and implement an integrated online presence on social media platforms.
Establish guidelines for all communications between the School and external constituents.
Conduct market research to analyze current demographic trends and to discover untapped opportunities for the School.
Collaborate with the Admissions team and the Advancement Office to develop strategies to recruit prospective students and engage committed alumni and families.
Act as a public spokesperson for the School when the Head of School is unavailable
Serve as a member of SERT (Safety and Emergency Response Team)
Help develop admissions materials and bi-yearly Peck News magazine.
Shape the strategic and creative direction of the school’s website.
Cultivate volunteer efforts in support of communication and marketing goals.
Supervise professional consultants contracted to address communication and marketing goals.
Develop and implement a crisis management communication plan.
Collaborate with the Associate Director of Communications and members of the Advancement and Admissions team members to ensure work alignment and productivity.
Perform other duties as assigned by and in support of the Head of School.

A Bachelor’s degree
Relevant experience in independent school marketing, advertising, public-relations, or related fields
Proficiencies preferred with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and digital photography/editing
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively
Excellent verbal and written skills
Proficiency with various social media platforms
Writing Skills: Demonstrates superior writing, editing, proofreading, and creative skills.
Problem Solving Skills - Considers a broad range of internal and external factors when solving problems. Considers complexities and perceived relationships among different problems or issues prior to recommending or implementing solutions.
