Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Public Relations Specialist II at Douglass Residential College. This position reports to the Director of Strategic Initiatives at Douglass and assists in advancing the communications operations for Douglass. The Public Relations Specialist II is expected to lead the following outcomes: 1) Greater visibility of DRC's contribution to students' personal, academic, and social achievements; 2) Stronger fund-raising platforms and donor cultivation opportunities; 3) Greater alumnae involvement and understanding of DRC programs and direction; 4) Educating the Rutgers' community and state stakeholders about the status and accomplishments of DRC students and programs.
In support of marketing and educating stakeholders and achieving the communication goals, this individual supports and executes special projects for the dean's office, including programs for the College's 100th anniversary celebration. This audience includes: students, alumnae, the Rutgers Community, and the general public.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
Provides assistance to communication projects for successful completion which includes: research, conceptualization, design, content writing and editing, graphic design, videography, photography, production and distribution.
Creates relevant products such as: press releases, promotional materials, newsletters (electronic and print), video, DRC website, donor cultivation materials, and other content that emerge as relevant.
Handles vendor outreach, manages mailing house contracts, drafts and proofreads communications, manages list servers.
Supports the communications program for the college in order to meet the overall goal of increasing the understanding, visibility and branding of Douglass as a preeminent institution of women's education within Rutgers, the state, nation, alumnae, and other stakeholders.
Serves as the social media manager, managing all Douglass social media accounts and managing the student social media team.
Analyzes traffic to digital platforms using Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, other tools, and provides feedback on how to further engage our audiences, and increase followers, likes, etc.
Produces compelling content in the form of social media posts across digital platforms and helps to develop and implement fundraising strategy through social media and online content.
Serves as the communications administrator, which includes task related to vendor outreach, managing mailing house contracts, managing list servers and managing media files.
Manages website calendars, content updates, and other website related maintenance.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in English, communications, public relations, marketing, mass communications, journalism, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Two years of relevant experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Expert understanding of social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and LinkedIn.
Creativity, originality, exceptional writing and editing, research skills, photography and videography skills, and design experience.
Evidence of working successfully within teams in a collaborative environment is important.
Must demonstrate exceptional oral and interpersonal communication skills; problem solving, and diplomacy; and demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong organizational and project management skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Experience with web content management systems and leading social networking utilities
Three years of experience managing social media, in a higher education setting
Experience with Photoshop, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Final Cut Pro
Experience increasing traffic to digital platforms using Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, and other tools
Proven ability to write, edit, and proofread standard copy
Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and web content management systems and leading social networking utilities.
Photoshop, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Final Cut Pro
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
Requires flexibility in scheduling; the ability to work night and weekends on an as-needed basis
