The Director of Communications oversees NAFIS communications, branding, and messaging to external audiences and NAFIS members, ensuring there is a clear and consistent message across all communications channels. This responsibility includes developing and implementing communications strategy directed to national and local media, Congress and the Administration via both traditional and social media. The Director of Communications is responsible for developing and implementing the NAFIS membership recruitment, renewal and engagement strategy. The Director of Communications is responsible for managing the activities of the Federally Impacted Schools Education Foundation.
Director of Communications reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Director of Policy & Advocacy and Director of Operations and Conference Services to achieve the organization’s goals.

Communications & membership responsibilities
Develop and implement communications messaging and branding strategies and goals to core audiences such as the media, policymakers and NAFIS members that include, but are not limited to the following:
Develop and implement an annual communications plan that includes an external and internal communications strategy.
Leverage key moments like bill introductions, agency announcements, hearings, floor votes to advance organizational policy goals.
Develop and manage relationships with national, local, print and digital media representatives.
Write Op-Eds, pitch news items, write blog posts.
Update and manage website and social media channels and develop social media engagement plans and goals.
Draft, edit, design and disseminate NAFIS publications such as the weekly and bi-monthly NAFIS newsletters, infographics and the Annual Report.
Oversee annual membership renewal and recruitment campaigns and develop member engagement opportunities.
Create, implement and oversee all membership strategies related to recruitment, retention and engagement.
Develop calendar of membership activities for the year.
Design and publish Board manual and manage Board election at national conference.
Identify new areas of member benefits and services.
The Director of Communications supports the goals of two national conferences:
Assists in developing the theme for the conference and drafting, designing, publishing conference materials such as the conference workbook, handouts and the conference App.
Assists in recruiting conference speakers.
Liaison with photographer, audio- visual professionals, and oversees all boxing and shipping of materials to and from conference site.
Federally Impacted Schools Educational Foundation
The Director of Communications and Membership Services manages the activities of the Federally Impacted Schools Educational Foundation including:
Overseeing and implementing the grant awards announcement, collection and selection process.
7-10 years work experience
Hill, nonprofit, or think tank experience
Understanding of the legislative process
Excellent verbal and written skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
Proficient in In-design or other design software for publishing newsletters and other collateral.
Excellent time management skills and the ability to maintain a team focused attitude in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to travel as needed and required weekend work during two conferences a year in Washington, DC.

Additional Salary Information: Comprised of four staff, NAFIS is a small, dynamic and nimble organization with an engaged and active membership. Salary $80,000 - $95,000 depending on experience, with competitive benefits – health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, parking and, paid vacation and sick leave.
