UCSC strives to embrace diversity in all its forms; it strives to be an inclusive community that fosters an open, enlightened & productive environment.
Recognized as an outstanding public research university, the University of California Santa Cruz is committed to bold and progressive inquiry in research, innovative teaching in both graduate and undergraduate education, and engaged public service that benefits our communities and the planet. Our campus has been ranked amongst the top institutions in the world for its research impact. At UC Santa Cruz, diversity is an integral part of our mission to teach, discover, and serve. UC Santa Cruz researchers were the first to map the human genome and make it publicly available, and they were key contributors to the momentous discovery of the Higgs Boson.
Situated on 2,000 acres among the redwoods and overlooking the Monterey Bay, the campus serves nearly 18,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The campus is located just 30 miles from San Jose, the southern hub of Silicon Valley.
University Relations builds enduring relationships, resources, and understanding that enable UC Santa Cruz to provide educational opportunities, create knowledge, and transform lives. University Relations works closely with internal and external constituencies of the campus including trustees of the UC Santa Cruz Foundation, the Alumni Council, and members of other key constituencies.
University Relations provides leadership, strategic planning, and central services in the areas of alumni, donor and parent relations and outreach, fundraising, government relations, communications, marketing, media relations, public events and publications (electronic and print), and campus Web development. In addition, University Relations provides support for the UC Santa Cruz Foundation and the UCSC Alumni Associations, both separate, not-for-profit corporations in the state of California.
The campus seeks an ambitious and enthusiastic fundraising professional to serve as Associate Director of Development. Under the supervision of the divisional Director of Development and in consultation with the divisional Dean, the Associate Director engages current and prospective donors using a variety of means to secure and increase philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, and foundations for the academic priorities of the division and campus as determined by the Dean and the Associate Vice Chancellor, Philanthropy.
The Associate Director's major responsibilities include managing the university's relationship with current and prospective major gift donors. With support from University Relations, the Associate Director will design and implement comprehensive strategies to identify, cultivate, and steward high- and medium-capacity individuals, build engagement of these individuals, and create gift opportunities based on divisional and campus priorities. The incumbent will formulate and coordinate fundraising strategies, determine appropriate stewardship plans for significant donors, and involve the trustees, other high level volunteers, and academic leaders in connecting these donors to the division and campus to deepen their interest and involvement.
Using advanced fundraising concepts, this position plans, organizes, and directs complex large-scale fundraising campaigns that include multiple components. Results have major impact on overall program goals and assignments and are typically at the 'major gifts' level, including managing portfolios of donors capable of giving gifts of an agreed upon amount. The Associate Director attends functions and meetings and serves on internal and external committees as a campus representative.
