Coordinates and supervises the delivery of nursing care and activities of assigned personnel. Ensures compliance with the directives, policies, applicable laws and regulations. Supports and implements the Nursing Department/Hospital goals and objectives. Coordinates patient flow and assesses appropriate staffing levels throughout the hospital.
Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and optimum patient satisfaction.
Responsible for ensuring the very best patient/family experience by optimizing all customer interaction. Foster a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation and adheres to GHS and unit specific Service Standards.
Reports directly to the Associate Vice President/Vice President, Nursing Services.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as a strong role model in professional practice as evidenced by strong relationships with staff and members of other departments, effective communications, appropriate resource utilization, sound planning skills and personal commitment to providing the highest quality of patient care to every patient, every day.
Effectively communicates and incorporates the Nursing and Organization's vision, goals, and initiatives at the unit/department level consistent with Magnet philosophy and environment.
Supports Managers as they supervise assigned personnel within Nursing. Assists with the orientation, integration and education of new employees. Fosters a sense of pride in employees and promotes positive moral.
Facilitates patient placement with triage and prioritization of patient bed assignment in collaboration with Patient Placement and patient care department staff members.
Participates in the formulation of nursing policies and goals as well as policies affecting other departments. Communicates and interprets policies, procedures and regulations to patients, visitors and staff members. Facilitates implementation of policies and procedures. Promotes and supports positive guest relations.
Assigns nursing personnel, as necessary, for increased acuity, changes in patient acuity and call-offs based on patient census, unit acuity and volume. Supports staffing office as it relates to financial and quality outcomes.
Develops and maintains an effective collaboration with Physicians, patients, employees, and other departmental Managers and Administrators.
Carries out defined responsibilities in the disaster plan (HEICS), cardiac arrest/RRT protocol, bomb threat, hospital specific codes, and patient elopement procedures.
Supports Operations Managers as the resource model for Clinical Coordinators, CEP's, Charge Nurses and other hospital personnel in the advancement of their management skills.
Supports managers and staff attendance of assigned educational opportunities.
Serves as administration representative and communicates pertinent patient care activities and information to Administrator on call and/or appropriate personnel for problem solving/resolving issues.
Follows up on adverse, serious and sentinel events (patient, procedural and medication) occurring during the evening, night and weekend shifts. Ensures proper documentation.
Communicates with appropriate leadership personnel to resolve unit or departmental issues.
Promotes effective public relations, representing the facility to the general community. Reports patient conditions in the absence of the Public Relations Department.
Prioritizes activities on assigned shift according to unit and institutional needs.
Ensures patient/family concerns are investigated and addressed appropriately by the appropriate personnel.
Evaluates quality of care administered in assigned areas, makes rounds, and assures timely communication of significant operational issues.
Serves as a clinical resource assisting nursing personnel in assessing patient/family needs, obtaining equipment and patient care items as necessary, and to answer questions and solve problems within the department and the institution.
Evaluates the delivery of nursing care to ensure compliance with Nursing Standards based on evidence based practice guidelines.
Serves on assigned committees both within the department and within the institution.
Recognizes the impact of personal behavior on interpersonal and departmental relationships and role credibility.
Demonstrates transformational leadership in maintaining a Magnet Culture. Encourages new knowledge, innovations and improvements using evidence based practice and research in patient care.
Focuses on empirical quality outcomes related to clinical practice.
Supports organizational and nursing unit specific efforts for service excellence, financial accountability, quality improvement, and patient safety.
Follows up and ensures proper documentation on sentinel events (patient, procedural, Medication, falls) occurring on all shifts.
Maintains current knowledge base clinically and administratively through active participation in professional, and educational nursing activities to enhance skills as manager, leader, and clinical resource. Works in collaboration with the operations managers and nursing education department to support staff member's needs on all shifts.
Participates in special projects as assigned or requested as a representative of nursing leadership.
Participates in drug diversion investigations, as assigned.
Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform.
Addresses employee grievances according to the grievance procedures as applicable to the facility location.
