The Department of Chemistry at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville www.chem.utk.edu invites applications for a regular, full-time Publicity, Recruiting and Development Coordinator position (staff), which includes travel to professional conferences and hosting UT departmental visits. This position will develop, coordinate and maintain departmental and faculty websites; multiple departmental databases to be used in different contexts, such as departmental profiling of faculty, staff, students, program evaluation, and recruiting, and other communication products as needed. This position will also develop a comprehensive recruiting program for graduate studies in the Chemistry Department. The recruiter reports directly to the Head of the Department of Chemistry.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Data Base Development, Coordination, Maintenance oBackground on all Faculty, Staff and students in Chemistry Department, including:
Faculty and Student Awards, presentations and publication list
Faculty Funding of Research
Undergraduate and Graduate Student information: previous education, progress through system, awards, fellowships, papers published, positions after UTK
oRecruiting program development for the Department of Chemistry Graduate Program:
Develop and execute a comprehensive plan for recruitment of graduate students including recruiting materials, activities, tracking, management and utilization of resources
Develop and publish the Department of Chemistry graduate brochure; prepare highlights of faculty research and other public relations material
Develop and publish recruiting posters for graduate and undergraduate study at UTK Chemistry
Organize and track recruiting seminar trips by faculty to feeder and prospective feeder schools. Prepare and distribute recruiting trip materials to faculty recruiters. Collect and review faculty recruiting trip reports and make follow-up contact with potential recruits
Develop, update and maintain a list of feeder schools for recruitment. Track the number of recruits from feeder schools to assess value and magnitude of continued efforts
Initiate and manage electronic and postal correspondence to feeder schools
Develop a yearly plan for participation in graduate school fairs at national, regional and minority student conferences. Coordinate recruiting efforts at each conference, including planning, attendance, booth, and follow up communications with potential recruits. Attend personally and lead recruiting efforts at each.
Plan and execute annual graduate recruiting (graduate visitation) weekend or individual campus visits for students to learn more about our program. Be the primary point of contact with attendees, coordinating local arrangements and activities on campus. Work closely with departmental recruiting committee to establish faculty and student contacts for visiting student. Organize group activities for the research weekend.
Produce recruiting videos that highlight research groups and high-profile activities, facilities, and capabilities in the Department.
Ensures that recruiting efforts are developed and implemented so that the budget discussed and developed in consultation with the department head is not exceeded. Assists department in developing requests for additional funding from the College and Graduate School for recruiting efforts.
oDevelopment and General:
Develop bi-annual departmental newsletter, including editing content and consulting with the College Communications Office to insure compliance with branding and other University publishing requirements
Develop quarterly e-newsletter, including editing content and consulting with the College Communications Office to insure compliance with branding and other University publishing requirements
Develop and maintain alumni contacts
Assist in Webcasting of Departmental seminars (archiving)
Assist in drafting donor thank you letters and send donor gifts
Assist in Board of Visitors Related Matters
oCommunication and Public Relations:
Design, develop and maintain departmental, faculty and student organization websites.
Produce instructional and recruiting videos
Develop and maintain other communication pieces as needed.
