Reporting to the CEO/Executive Producer, the Director of Advancement (DA) will lead the development department and help Arizona Broadway Theatre expand its base of support using strong relationship management strategies. The DA directs all fundraising and engagement efforts for the organization, including creating, implementing, and maintaining strategies for building and sustaining public and private support. S/he will guide the direction of targeted giving initiatives, including engaging current donors and identifying and soliciting new funding opportunities. A confident, externally-focused DA candidate will be capable of analyzing data and translating it into action, collaborate with ABT staff, Board volunteers, and key constituents to expand the donor base, strengthen the annual fund, increase major donor giving and enhance ABT relationships and fundraising resources.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
With commitment to stakeholder engagement as a guiding principle, the Director of Advancement will be part of the ABT leadership team. S/he will be a key Ambassador for the organization, an experienced solicitor with a history of successfully closing major gifts and an experienced, strategic leader. S/he must be excellent at managing time and priorities while completing the core responsibilities of this key position which include, but are not limited to:
Develop an organizational fundraising plan; implement the plan with executive leadership and ABT Board; take responsibility for the plan’s results.
Steward and expand ABT’s major donor base; Identify, cultivate, and nurture relationships with existing and new donors.
Be a key partner in the ongoing implementation of capital and programmatic projects.
Lead initiatives to engage and strengthen corporate, foundation, and government relationships and giving.
Represent ABT and develop relationships with governmental agencies, city supervisors, and other performing arts organizations to keep abreast of new opportunities in greater Phoenix.
Play an instrumental role in shaping the development team for the future.
Development Staff Leadership
Thrive as the empowered leader of an expanding development department.
Collaborate and coordinate with ABT marketing, box office, artistic and education on external and internal communications, collateral and strategy.
Oversee the management of fundraising, cultivation, and stewardship events.
Implement and expand the analysis and effective use of Theatre Manager database.
Attend executive leadership meetings as needed.
ABT Board of Directors
Assist the Board in prioritizing initiatives and establishing functioning, effective committees.
Maximize Board commitment to achieve higher donation levels and ongoing commitments.
Develop personal relationships with Board members; educate and orient the Board, honing skills in donor cultivation; work with the Board on all fundraising related activities; inspire the Board.
Experience identifying and vetting Board member prospects is desired.

S/he will be a talented writer and eloquent speaker who is capable of meeting deadlines and has the ability to listen, observe, react, collaborate, and effortlessly incorporate new information. The Director of Development must possess a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred, in a related field and five to ten years of increasing fundraising responsibility. S/he should have quantifiable success in development and possess a proven track record in the identification, cultivation, acknowledgement, and stewardship of existing donors and potential donors at all levels. S/he should have the ability to nurture and inspire the staff in both written and oral communication and will have excellent facility with grant writing, donor research, strategic development, and plan implementation. Experience in engaging, stewarding and soliciting sophisticated high-end donors is essential. Applicants must be able to demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States.
