About Gads Hill Center:
Gads Hill Center (GHC) serves children, youth and families from sites in North Lawndale, Brighton Park, Pilsen and Chicago Lawn and multiple school-based locations. Our formal programs, including early childhood education, comprehensive family support, academic and social-emotional support, school-based mental health and community nutrition education, serve over 4,000 families annually.
Under the general direction of the Development and Communications Coordinator, the Communications Intern assists in the implementation of the organization’s communication strategy to elevate Gads Hill Center’s profile. This position will also ensure that the Gads Hill Center brand identity is reflected with fidelity in all of the organization’s marketing and communications efforts.
Assist in implementing an annual communications plan to support the organization’s fundraising and marketing efforts and grow the agency’s following.
Maintain a robust social media and online presence including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, blogs, and website.
Draft creative content for a biweekly newsletter that includes stories about families in Gads Hill Center’s programs and relevant research in the fields of mental health, early childhood education, and youth education.
Collect stories, interviews, photos and other relevant information from families, community members and events to maintain a story bank which will be used by the Development department.
Assist in the analysis of communications efforts to hone strategies that will effectively engage a variety of audiences.
Collaborate on special event materials including save the dates, invitations, programs, and related materials and promotes events through a range of communication channels.
Complete administrative tasks on an as-needed basis.
Perform other duties as assigned.
A Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or Public Policy.
Knowledge of various social media platforms.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Superior research skills with the ability to judge what is of value to the organization and provide high-level summaries.
Ability to plan, prioritize and coordinate multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Graphic design and web development ability a plus.
Passionate belief in Gads Hill Center’s mission.
Status: Unpaid, course credit can be provided (depending on university).
Schedule: 15 hours per week
