The North Carolina Forestry Association is a private, nonprofit organization founded 106 years ago and is one of the oldest conservation organizations in the state. Its 4,000 members consist of forest managers, land owners, loggers, mill operators, educators and various others with business interests related to the forest products industry. All the association members share a common interest in the long-term health and productivity of the state’s forest resources and the industries they support. The association offers a variety of educational programs and resources for forestry professionals and the general public that promote responsible use and management of our state’s forest resources. The association’s Executive Vice President is responsible for the management of the association and represents the association on key legislative and public outreach activities.
Serves as the voice of the association with the North Carolina General Assembly, the Governor and other Council of State members and their offices, the North Carolina Congressional delegation, government agencies and regulatory bodies and the media. Manages primary lobbyist activities for the association with the state legislature and state regulatory bodies. Effectively implements policies and plans as approved by the association’s Board of Directors. Responsible for the administration and operation of the association. Serves as an ex-officio member and provides staff support for association committees. Provides leadership and support for key association objectives of Logger Safety and Training and Public Educational Outreach.
Experience in forestry, forestry related business, general business, association management or other relevant field and hold a BS/BA degree in a related discipline.
Proven business and financial management skills with a focus on annual, long-term, and strategic business budgets and plans.
Demonstrated leadership, coaching skills, and ability to work with and lead a team.
Ability to facilitate change in a positive manner.
Ability to gain consensus among members with diverse interests.
Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations and legal issues management.
Governmental affairs and public relations experience
High ethical standards
Good working knowledge or ability to quickly acquire a good working knowledge of the broad forest industry.
Ability to grow and energize membership.
Knowledge of “non-profit” organizations (501-3c and 6c) and management.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels.
Effectively uses personal computer and related software (e.g. Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and Quickbooks) and on-line systems.
