The Office of Advancement at the University of New Haven ha s recently completed a s trategic p lan that places strong emphasis on significantly enlarging the pool of known, rated major gift prospects in support of the ongoing $100 million Charger Challenge campaign.
As a result, t his position will focus on the proactive identification of new major gift prospects who can be activ ely engaged for support of the University . T he Assistant Director will also help conduct in - depth analysis of the organization’s prospect pool, as well as support the overall s trategic engagement of University constituents. The Office of Advancement is seeking an individual who can actively promote and support data - driven decision making .
The Assistant Director will support the front - line e fforts of a team of major gift officers , and collaborate with the entire staff of the Office of Advancement.
The Assistant Director ’s core function will be to implement structured, systematic, and proactive research t hat identif ies potential new major gift prospects to the University.
Gather, analyze , interpret and summariz e a range of biographical, financial, philanthropic , and other types of information on prospective donors;
Use relevant wealth indicators and other information to p lac e a new or revis ed estimated major gift capacity rating on prospective donors ;
Utilize data mining , giving likelihood scores, affinity indicators, and other analytical techniques to support strategic relationship - building and donor engagement;
Prepare confidential research reports (ranging from short briefings to comprehensive profiles) on major gift prospects as needed ;
Develop and maintain collabor ative relationships with major gift officers , Office of Advancement staff , and other university constituents.
Bachelor’s degree, with three ( 3 ) + years of direct prospe ct re search work experience , preferably in the higher education field;
Solid understanding of prospect research goals and techniques , including the use of electronic , print, and other subscription - based data sources, wealth indicators, and gift capacity rating methodologies ;
Strong preference for user experience with Raiser’s Edge database software
Demonstrated ability to quickly collect, analyz e , and integrat e data from multiple s ources, and the ability to draw logical conclusions from combinations of fa cts, opinions and other qualitative information;
Strong writing, research and analytical skills, as well as editing and proof - reading ability ;
Proficiency with electronic word processing and spreadsheet software (e.g. Word, Excel) as well as web - based information search tools ;
A commitment to consistent ly high standards of product quality, accuracy & timeliness ;
The ability to meet deadlines and work independently , with strong attention to detail, thoroughness, and accuracy ;
Well - developed project manag ement, time pr ioritization , and pr oblem - solving skills ;
A high degree of professionalism , respect for confidentiality, and ethical use of data;
The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
