The Senior Director, Media Relations is a leader in the Office of Strategic Communications & Public Affairs, reporting to the Executive Director, University Communications, and helps advance the university's goals and priorities while enhancing and protecting the university's reputation and brand. This professional is responsible for conceiving, designing and implementing specific strategies and initiatives to secure influential international, national, regional and local media exposure for the University of California, Irvine (UCI), including its professional schools, programs, centers, individuals, events and initiatives. The position addresses the university's achievements, opportunities, critical issues and high-visibility crises through a broad range of communications tactics - from news to opinions, in-depth features, integrated story packages and digital/social platforms - and provides strategic media and communications counsel and support to university senior leadership. Responsible for identifying influencers and supporters, spotting trends, moderating comments, establishing community culture and tone, and maintaining and safeguarding brand voice and message strategy across networks.
