Hop-In supports the success of first-generation, low income students, and/or academically underprepared students by providing year-round mentoring, guidance and academic support. The Assistant Director, Hop-In Programming is responsible for collaborating with faculty, students and staff to coordinate educational and community building activities for members of the Hop-In Program.
The Assistant Director, Hop-In Programming must be creative and innovative, possess a willingness and talent for engaging students, have experience in promotion and public relations strategies, and have the ability to generate excitement about programs. This positon occasionally supports collaborative programming between Hop-In and the Johns Hopkins Underrepresented in Medicine Program (JUMP). The work schedule will be developed around program demands which include evenings and weekends. This is a full time positon.
Work with Director to coordinate workshops, events and trips for the Hop-In Summer Program.
Coordinate academic year daytime, evening, and weekend programs with other campus departments and organizations (i.e. Student Life, Academic Affairs, Residence Life, as well as multicultural and other student organizations).
Collaborate with Financial Aid and Academic Support Services to coordinate financial aid and academic support (workshops, coaching, etc.) programs for CSS (Hop-In, JUMP, SYE, Athletics Advising) students as appropriate.
Support the Hop-In Director to implement collaborative career networking events with alumni, faculty, students, Career Center staff, and other appropriate constituents.
Collaborate with the Counseling Center staff to coordinate workshops and support groups to assist students' emotional adjustment to college (e.g., self care, family related issues, anxiety management, etc.).
Support the Director in developing and maintaining a system to track student participation in research, internship, civic engagement, creative activity, and service learning opportunities.
Provide on-site supervision of events and activities as appropriate.
Conducts monthly personal and academically-oriented individual and small group advising sessions with Hop-In students ( n=40-50)
Monitor Hop-In participant's academic performance via HopReach, the comprehensive student intervention database, and on-going contact with academic advisors and faculty.
Work with University staff (e.g. case managers, psychologists, academic advisors, etc.) to support students facing personal or academic challenges.
Provide counseling and goal-focused coaching services for individuals and groups in order to advise students on career-related issues including major choice, internships, full-time employment, graduate school opportunities, and other post baccalaureate positions.
Advise student organizations that support issues of underrepresented populations (i.e., first generation, low-income students, students with disabilities, or underrepresented racial minorities).
Develop and manage dissemination of office publications including the eNewsletter, brochures, the Hop-In website, Facebook and other social media.
Represent the office at undergraduate recruitment forums for parents and students as well as other relevant University programs.
Represent the office at New Student Orientation, Family Weekend and other University events as appropriate.
Develop and manage programming-related budgets.
Conduct program evaluations and produce individual event reports as well as semester participation reports.
Other duties as assigned.
Master's Degree in counseling, higher education, counseling or related field required.
At least three years experience advising and mentoring students, planning and/or coordinating events, and establishing/maintaining collaborative working relationships with professionals in a college campus environment.
