University Libraries: Communication Specialist to be responsible for management of Miami University Libraries social media accounts, day-to-day communications-side website upkeep, and liaising with the libraries staff to promote libraries’ events, resources and initiatives primarily to students and campus audiences through effective storytelling. This position is part of the strategic communications staff within the Miami University Libraries and under the direction of the strategic communications coordinator. Responsibilities include: creating engaging and substantive written and/or visual content to tell the Miami Libraries’ stories and promote events and initiatives; managing the University Libraries’ social media accounts, including staying current with trends and regularly assessing the overall Miami Libraries’ social media strategy; providing direction, editorial support and general communications-side upkeep of the Miami University Libraries website; overseeing University Libraries’ email marketing communications, including internal communications, student communications, and communications to faculty; working closely with libraries’ staff to promote events targeting student and campus audiences; managing assigned or self-initiated projects, including collaborating across the division and with various campus partners.
Require: Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, interactive media studies or related field, three years of experience in editing, writing, visual storytelling, social media management, public relations or a related field; excellent communications skills, both oral and written; excellent editing skills, including technical knowledge, grammar and formatting; strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage complex tasks, set priorities and manage the involvement of other staff; a commitment to strong customer service is essential; ability to deal with the pressure of deadlines and willingness to work occasional extra hours to staff events or meet high-priority deadlines and to collaborate and contribute in a team environment but also to show initiative and function under limited supervision.
Desire: Five years of experience; basic familiarity with email marketing platforms, such as Emma; experience in a website content management system; working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suites and video editing software such as Adobe Premiere or iMovie. Proficient in PowerPoint; understanding of content marketing and a track record of utilizing social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat; related skills and work experience in a library setting.
