Posting Summary: The University of Virginia's Department of Parking and Transportation is searching for a reliable leader to serve as Operations Manager for its University Transit Service division. All applicants with experience in the transit field, possessing management experience/expertise, and equipped with a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and good driving record (positive DMV point balance) will be considered.
The UTS Operations Manager participates in planning and administration of the operations of the fixed route transit service, provides direct management and scheduling for the drivers, collects route efficiency data and reports results, and conducts public relations.

Required Minimum Level of Experience: Some - up to 4 years
Required Specific Experience: At least two years of experience within a pupil transportation or fixed route transit-providing organization. Some management experience. Some experience in a professional office setting. Some experience providing front-line customer service.
Preferred Minimum Level of Experience: Considerable - 4 to 7 years
Preferred Specific Experience: One year of management experience is preferred.
Required License or Certification: Commercial Driver's License Type A or B with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements. Must possess a positive point balance on license and obtain a Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Driver's License within 30 days of hire.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have strong verbal and written skills. Provide customer service, prepare reports, data collection, prepare correspondence, work with the public, operate two-way radio, complete forms and keep logs. Knowledge of highway regulations; effective verbal and listening communications skills; time management skills; ability to read and write in the English language to record and maintain daily route records; ability to deliver clear and concise verbal instructions through two-way radio communications; ability to provide friendly customer service and conduct positive, courteous and respectful interaction with the public.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to safely operate a transit bus and luxury coach. Knowledge of University Transit service routes and procedures. Experience with staff planning and hiring. Experience with staff scheduling. Management expertise is strongly preferred.
Required Computer Applications: Basic computer literacy is REQUIRED. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Preferred Computer Applications: Skill, experience, and confidence with programs like Outlook, web-based forms, GPS software, Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), spreadsheet and database management.
