About the Position: The Senior Director of External Relations will direct and execute communications programs designed to improve the reputation and brand of Cincinnati Children's locally, regionally and nationally, through the strategic use of external news and social media. Successfully build and protect our reputation (issues management and emergency preparedness). Provide strategic input to the CEO for his communication priorities and speaking opportunities.
This leader must have a demonstrated track record with experience in securing significant media coverage for a large, diverse organization. With excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, this Senior Director will supervise experienced staff to produce measurable results that are aligned with goals. This position requires demonstrated knowledge of public relations, social media, community stakeholders and related issues; also understanding of the role of internal communications to enable partnership with management and support to the CEO for his internal and external communication needs.

Required Skills • Demonstrated leadership and ability to successfully deliver in complex organization. • Ability to effectively lead/manage through evolving environment (agility, comfort with uncertainty) • Experience defining thought leadership strategies and executing programs for large organizations. Experience managing agency resources. • Demonstrated understanding of building and protecting the institutions reputation including the communication role of the CEO. Issues and crisis management experience preferred. • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Drive collaboration across departments/functions. • Experience measuring the impact of external communication strategies.
Education/Work Experience Required: -Bachelor's Degree -15 years of experience managing communication functions -Experience supporting the communication needs of the Executive level leadership -Demonstrated tenure of progressively responsible experience managing media relations and social media communication programs in a large, complex organization. Significant supervisory experience
Preferred: -Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Social Media or related disciplines -Master's Degree -Experience within healthcare, academic institutions.
