Posting Summary: The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for a Community Builder, serving the counties of Tazewell and Buchanan. This is a part-time position. This position will work alongside residents and local officials in two Southwest Virginia communities to advance economic strategies that build upon the region's outdoor recreation, cultural assets, and unique opportunities in technology and health. As part of a regional network of local leaders, the position will take part in physical improvement and business development strategies including Opportunity SWVA's Rally entrepreneurial communities program, the Friends of Southwest Virginia's Appalachian Spring initiative, and specific local projects funded in part by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and the Appalachian Regional Commission.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with an Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work well with a diverse group of constituents and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. A valid driver's license and willingness to travel periodically within Southwest Virginia is also required. The successful candidate will be optimistic, team-spirited, energetic, and outcome-oriented.
