Job Requisition Number: 24019. The Group Exercise program is a part of the Fitness Department at the Recreational Sports Facility (RSF) at UC Berkeley. Our mission is to promote the knowledge, wellness, fitness, and quality of life for students, faculty, staff and the community. Our team of professional instructors educate, motivate and empower the campus community to make healthy lifestyle choices specifically in the areas of fitness and wellness. The Group Exercise team is highly visible and their knowledge and public relations skills are critical to the overall image of the RSF and the Fitness Department.
The Coordinator oversees the day-to-day operations of the Group Exercise program which provides over 120 classes per week across five studios and 2 pools. The position is responsible for program design, administrative support, payroll and budget management, and staff recruitment, training and development. The Group Exercise Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the highest level of customer service and professionalism while delivering innovative, safe and effective fitness programming that adheres to the standards, policies, and procedures of the RSF.
•Design, coordinate and manage cutting edge, inclusive Group Fitness programming that will excite and encourage members to participate. Stay current with industry trends and member requests and feedback to inform programming decisions. Collaborate with the Marketing/Communications team to develop effective public relations and promotional outreach to generate interest and attendance. •Provide detailed administrative support for the Group Exercise program including all forms and documents related to annual contracts, certifications, hiring, payroll, class scheduling, performance evaluation, class audits, and purchasing. Produce weekly staff newsletter. Coordinate bi-annual team meeting. Address member and staff inquiries or complaints in timely, professional manner. •Monitor Group Exercise budget and make programmatic adjustments and recommendations to ensure that annual goals are met. •Create, implement, and enforce risk management procedures to ensure the safety of participants and employees. Report safety issues to appropriate personnel, recommend improvements, and monitor outcome. Implement and enforce program policies and procedures. Update instructor handbook annually to reflect industry best practices. •Plan and schedule facility/space usage in collaboration with RSF Scheduling Department. Monitor equipment inventory, storage, and maintenance. Has primary responsibility to ensure that all fitness rooms are clean, well-maintained and organized. •Responsible for keeping all audio equipment in good working order at all times. Needs to be able to diagnosis and trouble shoot problem as they arise. •Participate in coordinating participation in unit and RSF events and activities including recruiting staff participation, securing equipment, and budgeting.•Knowledge of Group Exercise program activity and industry best practices. •Knowledge to teach a variety of class formats and an understanding of all class taught in RSF Group Exercise program. •Ability and desire to interact with participants and staff in a supportive and professional manner. •Ability to demonstrate leadership and inter-personal skills and the ability to work effectively across the organization, internally and externally. •Must have a strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, excellent problem solving skills, and the ability to execute tasks quickly and efficiently. •Must have demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. •Must be proficient in the use of basic computer applications. •Strong skills in short term planning, analysis, and problem solving. •Must be able to successfully pass FBI and DOJ Criminal Check. Education/Training: •Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. •Red Cross CPR required. Standard First Aid Training Certification required. •Nationally recognized certification in Group Exercise required. Additional specialty certifications preferred.
