Reporting to the Executive Director of Lifesharing under general direction, the Public Relations and Community Outreach Manager is responsible for local and statewide media relations for organ and tissue donation.
The incumbent has sole responsibility for responding to media inquiries, monitoring perceptions of and creating news/media opportunities for Lifesharing. Generates positive, proactive media coverage and support as well as crisis intervention and negative media response. Utilizes social media and the website to increase education in the community about organ donation. Directs the development of programs to educate targeted segments of the community to increase multicultural diverse donor registrations.
Responsible for development and branding of all print publications and internal/external newsletters for medical professionals, donor families, recipients, and the general public in multiple languages. Participate as a Board member of Donate Life California. Develops strong relationships with the media departments of all transplant hospitals in San Diego County. Oversees Lifesharing Volunteer pool. Performs other related duties as required.
A Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three (3) years of direct experience in marketing, communications, or media crisis management.
Ability to prepare and format information for internal/external distribution such as drafting letters, memos, intranet content, social media, compiling data for reports, editing, proofreading, and other duties related to communication of information and content.
Highly proficient computer skills, including MS Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Photoshop.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong conceptual skills.
Excellent team leadership and organization skill.
Demonstrated understanding of crisis communications, with ability to exercise discretion in working with sensitive organizational information.
Must possess strong project management skills, including but not limited to content and creative positioning, presentations, video, intranet and site maintenance and events.
Experience in the field of organ and tissue donation.
Understanding of Lifesharing, its process, values and mission.
Demonstrated implementation of crisis communications.
Develops press releases for stories pitched to TV, radio and print.
Must be able to work various hours & locations based on business needs.
A valid California driver's license and access to reliable transportation is required.
