Job Description: DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER, Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS), to engage donors and inspire philanthropic support, attract new corporate partners, and build the IDSS community. Will develop methods and activities that communicate IDSS goals and mission to key stakeholders; cooperate with IDSS leadership, communications, and development staff to develop a comprehensive communications plan; design, carry out, and oversee the development of fund-raising and promotional materials/initiatives, including print-based collateral, presentations, and online content; be responsible for social media and web content/presence, including working with web/programming/design/photography/video vendors and developing and delivering content across online channels; coordinate activities with communications and development colleagues throughout MIT and manage relationships with outside media; provide communications leadership and guidance to faculty and IDSS communications staff; and perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements: REQUIRED: bachelor's degree (advanced degree preferred); at least five years' communications and marketing experience; ability to develop content and communication that reflect the Institute's voice and priorities and drive an agenda forward by building strong partnerships with a diverse group of constituents; outstanding leadership and collaboration skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; attention to detail; strong problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work independently, exercise good judgment and discretion, and work under pressure in a deadline-driven environment with changing priorities; experience with and knowledge of development communications including gift solicitations, stewardship, and donor recognition and administration; and ability to create and modify compelling design layouts and templates. Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Office, HTML, Adobe CS, WordPress, Drupal content management system, social media platforms, and related web tools strongly preferred.
