The Executive Director of UChicago Creative is responsible for bringing strategy to life through groundbreaking multi-channel creative work for the University of Chicago. We are looking for a creative visionary who is passionate about the power of creative innovation and can inspire our campus-wide community.This integral role will be responsible for all aspects of UChicago Creative, including operations, creative output, and financial performance. The team's strategic goal is to produce high-quality, carefully targeted and efficiently produced marketing communications that advance the communication strategies and ultimately the recruiting, fundraising, community affairs, and public relations goals of the University. The Executive Director leads a team of designers, writers, editors, and producers and as needed best-in-class vendors.As part of a team of senior communications officers, the Executive Director will contribute to the priorities, strategies, and management of University Communications. The person in this role will also have the opportunity to contribute as part of campus-wide marketing projects and committees.The Executive Director reports to the Vice President for Communications. Responsibilities and ExpectationsSet the University creative course, with a finger on the pulse of what's happening in the world; remain current on industry, cultural, and technology trends, and look for opportunities to proactively incorporate them into the team's creative conceptsDevelop and deliver fresh thinking, innovative creative concepts and ideas, founded in data and insights, across all platforms Develop work that is consistent with the University's brand, voice, personality and philosophyOversee the 1,000+ projects produced each year by UChicago Creative, which range from brochures and videos to strategic marketing communications plans. PhotoStore and licensing also fall under UChicago CreativeSupervises a senior team of directors and associate directors and hires and supervises all UChicago Creative staff: 20+ people spanning editorial, design, multimedia, project management, identity, licensing, photography, and operationsLeads by example; not afraid to jump in and do the work where neededUnderstands and analyzes the marketing communications needs of the University as a whole, as well as of particular campus constituentsDemonstrates knowledge of recent surveying methods and needs analysis. Because a substantial portion of the office's output will consist of print, multimedia, and online materials, it is essential that the Executive Director have experience with digital communications, multimedia production, and the print publications processEstablish and uphold high quality, consistent creative standards and financial goals; manage the business of UChicago Creative, working with the Director of Creative Operations to meet the department's financial goalsAbility to lead business development of UChicago Creative and grow projects
