The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is seeking an Outreach and Marketing Manager for an exciting new program called the Bloomberg American Health Initiative. The Initiative was established through a $300 million gift to the School in September 2016 from the Bloomberg Philanthropies. It sets the School and its partners on a path to transform our national approach to modern public health challenges.
The Outreach and Marketing Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and managing a plan to promote key components of this recently launched program. Oversee day-to-day and long term outreach and marketing to target and recruit students and collaborating organizations. Successful management of high-level internal and external stakeholder relationships will be critical. This is a new position and requires significant ‘start-up’ activities.
The essence of the Bloomberg American Health Initiative is a commitment to tackle five critical health threats facing the country: addiction and overdose; environmental challenges; obesity and the food system; risks to adolescent health; and violence. It provides for: 1) 25 endowed faculty positions; 2) 50 full annual scholarships for students pursuing a Master’s in Public Health (MPH); 3) 10 full annual scholarships for a new Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) program; 4) support for ongoing workshops, symposiums and a significant annual public health summit. A core component of the Initiative is a ‘public health triangle’ that brings together students, the School and public and private organizations on the front lines of public health or working in areas critical to but not traditionally associated with public health outcomes. This program will scale up over five years and provides for long-term, permanent funding for many of the key components. This position reports to the Director of Communications for the Bloomberg American Health Initiative. Also, function in close collaboration and consultation with colleagues in the School’s central communications and marketing team including the Sr. Director of Communications and Marketing, Office of External Affairs. Work closely with the Office of Student Affairs admissions team, the Office of Academic Affairs and each of the 10 academic departments and MPH office.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct national outreach to engage a diverse network of community-based organizations, public agencies and other organizations in order to attract a diverse array of fellowship candidates from a variety of fields. Identify, through research and other means, organizations and networks that could become collaborating organizations by sponsoring fellowship applicants. This includes identifying non-traditional partners outside the field of public health. Oversee marketing for events, including workshops, symposiums and an annual summit. Develop innovative marketing campaigns including plans covering goals, objectives, strategies and tactics across print, digital multimedia and social media platforms. A wide variety of tactics may be considered including advertising, promotion at conferences and events, direct mail, video, to email and digital marketing strategies. Manage an overall marketing and outreach calendar. Develop and manage a marketing budget. Write and design preliminary and final outreach and marketing materials including copy and visuals working directly or in conjunction with in-house or external resources. Identify and negotiate media, sponsorship and advertising placements. Work closely with admissions, the MPH and DrPH offices for recruitment activities. Develop tools to measure the effectiveness and ROI on marketing plans. Manage the maintenance of marketing files including plans, graphics, logos, publications, design, archives etc. Work proactively with other team members, identifying resources and approaches to achieving job goals and outcomes. Under the guidance of the BAHI Director of Communications, is responsible for identifying needs and opportunities as well as managing his or her daily work and responsibilities, as well as, moving forward short- and long-term goals in a timely manner.

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or related field. Minimum of four years related experience developing and implementing complex and comprehensive marketing strategies. Advanced degree may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Ability to think out of the box, bringing creative, innovative and new ways of doing things. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume changing environment. Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of audiences and stakeholders. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including experience and comfort in public speaking and presentations. Ability to identify, work with and manage contracts for vendors and consultants. Ability and willingness to travel. Able to works both independently and collaboratively. Established track-record of responsibility, accountability and game-changing achievement. Ability to conceive and implement non-traditional framing and engagement of issues or audiences critical to success. Experience with standard office software products such as Microsoft office suite. Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies, project management, document sharing and other tools. Ability to work in InDesign and other Adobe creative platforms important.
**JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.**
