Development Director Chicago Commons is seeking a Development Director. This position requires an individual who is interested in developing skills in all aspects of the fundraising field, has excellent attention to detail, and is able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. This position reports to the Senior Vice President of External Affairs.
Working with the Vice President of External Affairs, lead the implementation of a comprehensive development strategy to include individual, foundation giving, major gifts, employee giving, alumni (former participants), etc. Working with Major Gifts Officer, identify prospects, cultivate and solicit gifts using moves management.
Actively network, engage, and enlist the support of current and new corporate sponsors, individuals, family foundations and agencies. Manage key relationships and actively cultivate them
Working with Special Events and Communications Manager, oversee all communications materials including brochures, website, social media and media and internal communications. In addition approve and advise on all events logistics for fundraisers and cultivation events.
Oversee, working with grant writer, the development and tracking of all proposals, materials, reports and correspondence for donors. Monitor and evaluate performance in relation to goals to implement changes or improve systems
Ensure that adequate administrative systems are in place to properly receive, acknowledge and account for all donations to the organization.
Monitor social impact/development arena to align Chicago Commons with major funding changes or trends
Working closely with offshore team and development assistant, oversee the processing of donations in Raiser’s Edge database in the Blackbaud hosted environment. This includes gift entry, acknowledgements, honor/memorial notifications, electronic filing and paper files
Manage and motivate team to perform at high levels through potential incentive-based opportunities, positive coaching and feedback and clear communication
General Office support including processing invoices, sending out pledge reminders, and ensuring mailings are on time
Promote volunteer opportunities at Chicago Commons and establish systems for tracking and acknowledging volunteer service as it occurs throughout the year.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Knowledge of development practices and techniques is also required. Position requires a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in fundraising.
Excellent organizational and analytical experience with strategic planning processes, as well as an ability to work under pressure.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including a high level of attention to detail and active listening skills
Proficiency in using MS Office products including word processing, spreadsheets, publishing, presentation and database applications.
Experience working with Raiser's Edge or Salesforce software is required.
