The Coordinator of Recruitment, Career Services, and Outreach will be responsible coordinating and maintaining all functions related to the recruitment of undergraduate students to the School of Education; career services for School of Education students and alumni; and School of Education outreach initiatives, including alumni affairs, event planning, and outreach initiatives for current students.
As a member of the School’s Office of Student and Academic Services, the successful candidate will serve prospective students, current students, and alumni in the School of Education and report directly to the Dean. The successful candidate needs to be able to work cooperatively with others within the School of Education (e.g., Marketing and Communication, Student Teaching office, Program Directors, faculty, etc.) and across the University (e.g., Admissions, Career Services).
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Among other duties, the coordinator will serve in three major functional areas:
Serves as liaison with undergraduate admissions and EMG for all issues related to undergraduate recruitment for the School of Education.
Occasionally, meets with prospective School of Education undergraduates and graduates, and their families, who make campus visits. Maintain a schedule and coordinate for School of Education “ambassadors” to provide campus tours for prospective students and families.
Works with Admissions and OMC to coordinate year-long mailing and emails to prospective undergraduate students. Follow up with applicants who indicate interest in the SOE.
Coordinates the School’s participation in October and June University recruitment events, and solely plan/direct the School’s preview day for prospective students in March.
Works with the Director of Marketing and Communications to advertise and promote SOE programs and events, including web content and social media postings.
Works with the Director of the Student Teaching office and serve as liaison with Career Services for all career services issues for the School of Education.
Coordinates resume and mock interview workshops for current students. Coordinates individualized resume/job search/career development services for students and alumni, through University Career Services.
Coordinates the School’s participation in education job fairs (PERC).
Current UG Students -
Develops and oversees student outreach initiatives that foster communication and interaction between SOE student organizations and faculty, incoming freshman and faculty, and freshman and upperclassmen (e.g., SomeOnE project, fall program socials, fall student organization fair).
Coordinates with Campus Ministry regarding opportunities for outreach and interns
Serves as point person for mass emailing UG students and/or specific groups of students.
Alumni Affairs -
Oversees the development and functions of the Alumni Board
Coordinates alumni services, both as external point-of-contact and intra-University liaison.
Coordinates the School’s participation in University Homecoming.
Fosters alumni involvement in the SOE, including: speakers, exit interviews, mock interviews, LTQC, Student Teaching and Field Placement, etc.
SOE Events Coordinator -
Serves as point person for planning all events (social, recruitment, career services) for the SOE, including: Homecoming, Preview Day, Parent Day, DuqFest, Freshman Orientation Lunch, Matriculation reception, Graduation, etc.
REQUIREMENTS OF WORK:
The successful candidate will have at minimum a Bachelor’s degree and preferably a Master’s degree. Related professional experience of 2+ years in the field of higher education and/or public relations/public affairs is preferred. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required; outstanding oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are preferred. Computer knowledge is required, especially use of Microsoft Office Suite and the internet.
An equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the knowledge, abilities and skills required to perform the essential job functions will be considered.
