Pay Grade: 43 The University of Tennessee Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) has an opening for a Finance and Accounting Consultant. MTAS is an agency of the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service that provides technical assistance, training and research for Tennessee towns and cities, state government, and municipal government related associations. The Finance and Accounting Consultant provides professional advice and technical assistance in the area of municipal financial management to cities in Tennessee, regardless of size, on a broad range of issues and problems. In addition to providing direct client assistance, this position researches, develops, and maintains timely technical reports and publications on critical financial issues. Also, the Finance and Accounting Consultant develops and teaches multiple municipal training courses within the context of a well-defined training curriculum, and assists other consultants in the agency in the performance of individual and team projects. The position performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Requirements: Education: Requires a bachelor's in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance, a related field, or equivalent with at least eight years of finance related work experience. Prefer a Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field with at least five years of finance related work experience. Certification: Requires at time of employment or within 18 months of employment, one of the following: (1) Certified Government Finance Manager by the Association of Government Accountants, or (2) Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) by the Government Finance Officers Association, or be a Certified Public Accountant by a state board of accountancy and in active status with a minimum of five (5) years of primarily governmental experience. Experience: Requires experience in a finance related position in state or local government. Prefer CPA certification, and Tennessee government specific experience. Each employee that drives a vehicle for work related business, must have and maintain a valid driver's license. This position requires extensive travel.
