The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, is seeking a Senior Manager, Grassroots and State Government Advocacy in our Washington D.C. office. This high performing mid-level professional will work to advance the Academy’s public policy agenda by supporting and further developing grassroots infrastructure that expands organizational capacity
and outcomes. This position is the policy and advocacy connection
between the Academy and affiliate and DPG/MIG policy efforts, including
training members on effective advocacy for all levels of government.
Organize, manage and lead advocacy education and training for Academy stakeholders, including affiliates, DPG/MIGs, committees, leadership and the general membership.
Organize and manage grassroots advocacy campaigns and oversee the compilation of policy and advocacy strategic measures.
Works with federal and state legislators, agency officials and other policy stakeholders to promote the Academy’s policy initiatives
Monitors state regulatory and legislative issues and provides guidance to affiliates on Academy stances.
Communicates with internal and external stakeholders through Academy publications and other mediums
A bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition, dietetics, political science or public health with an emphasis in nutrition or public policy or a related field required, plus one year of academic training.
RDN credential and certification and advanced training in grassroots advocacy and project management desirable; Master’s Degree strongly preferred
4-5 years of relevant, demonstrated experience managing legislation and/or government relations and advocacy; House and/or Senate experience preferred
Knowledge of and interest in political processes and public policy processes are desired
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Able to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Self-starter and team player
Strong strategic thinking and interpersonal skills
This position is located in our Washington, D.C. office and will not telecommute.
