The board relations and internal communications specialist at the University of Minnesota Foundation (UMF) is part of the marketing and communications team, and is primarily responsible for curating, creating, and disseminating information, supporting the Board of Trustees, and developing communications strategies and content. Strategic thought and creativity in identifying and positioning content for an array of internal audience segments is a key function of this role.
The board relations and internal communications specialist oversees high-profile communications vehicles, including a 400+ user intranet, a 60+ user board portal, and monthly e-newsletters. S/he works closely with the director of board relations and internal communications to execute jointly developed strategies and make recommendations for improved internal communications. S/he partners frequently with executive leadership and the human resources department to ensure a well-informed, multi-campus, University-wide development community. S/he partners frequently with the integrated media and creative resources team on internal-facing technology platform changes. S/he is a member of the workgroup that plans and executes bi-monthly all-staff business updates.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, journalism, or a related field, plus a minimum of two years of professional experience
Experience managing projects with accountability to deadlines
Demonstrated advanced proficiency with PC and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Experience with bulk email tools such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud/Exact Target
Experience and/or aptitude with web development (Basic HTML and/or CSS)
Experience and/or aptitude in formatting and publishing web content using Drupal or similar CMS
Self-starter, takes initiative, willingness to provide leadership on project activities
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion
Maintains composure and professionalism under pressure
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain relationships at all organizational levels
Communication skills - written and verbal
Possess strong professional presence in working with high-level volunteers and presenting information to groups
Proven experience making sound editorial decisions about content based on knowledge of audience as well as strategic communications goals
Experience with content sourcing, creation, and editing
Knowledge of development/fundraising and/or marketing terminology and procedures
