Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Development serves as a key member of the Administrative Team and is an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting Mounds Park Academy. The Director of Development provides vision, leadership, supervision, and management of the Development Office including the annual setting of strategic priorities, performance plans, and the assessment of program goals that are aligned and congruent with the school’s overall Strategic Plan.
In partnership with the Head of School, this position is responsible for fundraising, development activities, and community engagement. The Director of Development has the primary responsibility for the oversight and ongoing implementation of MPA’s Strategic Development Plan through the solicitation of major gifts, the annual fund, special events, planned giving, and corporate and foundation support.
Duties and Responsibilities
Actively work with the Head of School and Development Committee to implement the school’s Strategic Development Plan that includes specific and targeted yearly and long-term goals and strategies.
Utilize and understand data, research, and development services and utilize them according to the Strategic Development Plan.
Cultivation and Stewardship
In partnership with the Head of School, Board of Trustees, faculty, and staff, promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the school in alignment with its mission.
Support and partner with the Head of School on all fundraising initiatives, especially major gifts of $2,500 and above.
Successfully plan and execute the annual fund, special events, planned giving, and corporate and foundation support.
Identify, develop and provide leadership, supervision and direction to the Development Office staff.
Knowledge customarily acquired through formal education resulting in a master’s degree in philanthropy, public affairs, business, marketing, education, or communications with a minimum of seven years broad-based and successful experience in development and fundraising.
Seven or more years of professional experience.
Demonstrated success in a development function (managing and cultivating relationships with multiple funding sources).
Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time.
Experience with a successful capital campaign.
Exceptional relationship building and influencing skills as well as excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
Strong strategic planning and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently without close oversight.
Ability to work with cross-functional teams and to foster collaboration.
Ability to construct, articulate, and implement an Annual Strategic Development Plan.
Knowledge of development software (Raiser’s Edge) and Microsoft Office.

This is a full-time, year-round, salaried position. Occasional nights and weekends should be expected. Daily hours are flexible.
