The Communications & Public Affairs group is responsible for increasing Wellesley’s visibility in the world at large—building awareness of Wellesley’s place as first among all colleges—for women—and as one of the most prestigious undergraduate institutions in the world. The Director of Campaign Communications will lead the development and implementation of communications that support Wellesley’s multi-year comprehensive fundraising campaign, which is dedicated to ensuring that Wellesley has the resources and the momentum to be a transformative global institution for decades to come.
Wellesley achieved a major milestone at the end of the fiscal year 2017 when it secured 91 percent—more than $450 Million—of its $500 million campaign goal to advance the Wellesley Effect significantly ahead of schedule. The Director will be joining at a time when the campaign will very likely be extended, resulting in the opportunity to create Wellesley Effect Campaign Communications 2.0. This will call for the envisioning of campaign priorities in order to support both institutional thought leadership and the President’s top priorities.
The Director will lead the development of the annual plan for campaign communications and accompanying strategies, as well as manage the implementation of a range of multi-media communications and collateral in support of Wellesley’s leadership and front-line fundraising team as it focuses on cultivating and soliciting six- and seven-figure gifts. The Director will also partner with the Director of Resources Marketing to leverage campaign communications in support of the Resources team’s fundraising goals—most especially, the Wellesley Fund team’s efforts to target Wellesley’s “everyday” donors. Working closely with colleagues in C&PA, the Director will make sure that the President’s key messages and key themes are effectively and continually translated into all campaign communications.
Campaign communications are dedicated to building donor excitement and interest, highlighting both new and key giving priorities (such as a re-imagined Career Education capability and a new Science Center). Campaign communications are also designed to increase alumnae engagement—and in turn, increased giving—especially with the campaign microsite. The Director will track and measure performance to demonstrate success. In addition, the Director will work with the Chief Communications Officer to extend this mix of donor communications into broader, integrated campaigns that also target other key audiences (e.g., faculty, prospective students and their parents, key influencers) to increase the overall visibility of the College.
