AABB is an international, not-for-profit association that represents individuals and institutions involved in the field of transfusion medicine, patient blood management, and cellular therapies. The association is committed to improving health by developing and delivering standards, accreditation and educational programs that focus on optimizing patient and donor care and safety.
The Vice President, Quality Systems, Standards & Accreditation, directs, administers and coordinates the standard setting, accreditation and quality assurance activities of the Association in accordance with the policies, goals and initiatives established by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Vision, Mission and Core Values established by the Board of Directors. Directs and manages division results for all worldwide activities. This role is responsible for the overall strategic planning for the Division and is the leading authority on quality related systems within the organization. In this role, you will serve as a member of the Senior Management Team.
Recruit, train and develop employees to provide superior service and training for accreditation and standard setting to enable clients to meet all regulatory and association requirements with a minimal disruption to their activities.
Ensure a timely response to technical questions received by the National office;
Monitor federal regulatory activities relating to CLIA ’88 and scientific reports with application to transfusion medicine and cellular therapies; report to the CEO as appropriate;
Prepare informational reports for distribution to members through institutional mailings, AABB Weekly Report,SmartBrief; and CellSource; and
Coordinate provision of technical and quality assurance information.
Serve as a member of the senior management team:
Communicate, educate and motivate employees to understand and implement vision and mission in pursuit of overall strategy;
Participate in the strategic planning process;
Develop and implement strategic objectives to achieve global leader status in standards, accreditation and quality system implementation;
Oversee preparation of the Division budget and maintain fiscal accountability; and
Provide technical and management guidance to department directors and support personnel.
Evaluate all quality systems and processes of the organization and propose recommendations for improvement.
Assures the documentation of the Quality System s as they relate to the Organization;
Recommend and formulate Association policy in response to scientific advances and regulatory actions; and
Provide consultation and guidance to the Board of Directors and National Office Staff in matters relating to the interpretation of standards, accreditation and CLIA deemed status, transfusion medicine and cellular therapies procedures and scientific principles; ensure accuracy and consistency of Association documents.
Direct the creation, production, and distribution for all publications related to technical matters of interest to members and customers.
Attend meetings as requested of the Board of Directors and provide reports on Division matters to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors.
Delegate portions of activities, responsibilities, and authorities, as necessary and desirable to the directors within the Division. Ensure that the responsibilities, authorities and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood by entire Division staff.
Oversee the Reference Laboratory Accreditation program, including support for the American Rare Donor Program.
Represent the Association in communications with representatives of blood banks, transfusion services, cellular therapies, federal agencies administering CLIA, other associations, and supply and equipment manufacturers.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related discipline. Graduate degree preferred.
Ten or more years of experience related to transfusion medicine, including at least five years of experience in management and policy development, and at least two years of experience in quality auditing. Experience with Cellular Therapy preferred.
Certification as Quality Auditor preferred.
Current and thorough knowledge of:
Quality auditing principles and practices;
AABB Standards and accreditation requirements and procedures;
Applicable federal regulations and regulatory systems.
Knowledge of the Association’s QSE system.
Familiarity with technical and scientific principles underlying blood processing and procedures.
Demonstrated leadership ability of encouraging high standards of behavior and ability to delegate responsibility, adapt leadership style to situations and people, and empower, motivate, and guide others.
Demonstrated strategic orientation and ability to link long-range visions and concepts to daily work and how to plan actions to fit strategies.
Demonstrated fiscal responsibility through effective budgetary management and understanding of department budget’s impact on the overall financial picture of the organization.
Familiarity with AABB’s history, mission, strategic plan, and value proposition to the membership.
Demonstrated ability to establish policies, guidelines, plans and priorities; ability to identify resources and coordinate with others; monitor progress, evaluate outcomes and improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Demonstrated technical proficiency and understanding of its impact in area(s) of responsibility.
